Working with Bronze and 14K Rose Gold.

Image
Wiresculpture.com has this huge sale going on and I have never worked with Bronze or 14K Rose Gold filled wire before so I got both along with some more copper. Two nights ago, I discovered that Bronze is one of the most challenging metals to work with. Man, it felt like I was wire wrapping with cement. The two metals look exactly alike. Rose Gold is pretty much the same color as Bronze. In fact I was so sure that they accidently  messed up my order and sent me Bronze binding wire--that was until I worked with the gold. Gold is one of the most easiest metals to work with because it was so malleable. The difference in twisting Bronze and shaping it and coming to the gold was like twisting cement and then trying to twist water. But the results are fabulous! The result is a Carnelian Agate wrapped in Bronze and 14K Rose Gold filled wire. All Rose Gold is simply 75% Gold and 25% Copper to give it that rosy blushing color. Bronze is also another mix of copper and tin, w...

Aquamarine: Seawater Beryl

Image
Photo by the Gem Diva There is a gemstone that is known for soothing and calming the soul. It gently washes away fear and negativity. Made into a bathing elixir with lavender oil added into the mix, it will numb trauma. This stone is called Aquamarine.  The ancient philosopher, Pliny,  paid tribute to this gem of vitality, stating, “the lovely aquamarine, which seems to have come from some mermaid’s treasure house, in the depths of a summer sea, has charms not to be denied.” Aquamarine is derived from the Latin word for seawater. Aquamarine is a beautiful turquoise shade of Beryl, a mineral that is made of beryllium aluminum cyclosilicate. Emerald, Heliodor, Scarlet Emerald, and Morganite are all different colors of Beryl.  Aquamarine wrapped by the Gem Diva get it here for $20 Aquamarine, a stone of courage, brings calming energy to reduce stress and quiet the mind. It's great for sensitive people such as empaths who get bombarded with energy fr...

Iridium: An Extraterrestrial Element

Image
Last night, I was watching my favorite show, Ancient Aliens. One of the theories they were discussing was the fact that this huge mound in Ohio that is shaped like a Serpent and can only be seen from the sky was built by extraterrestrials. The mound was build at a time when modern science says that there were no people. The mound was also built on the edge of a crater--a site where a meteorite crashed about 300 million or so years ago. Iridium, according to the theory, was a source of fuel for the ET's. Could they have come here to mine for Iridium? This inspired today's blog post. What exactly is Iridium? Iridium is an actual chemical element. It's atomic number is 77 and it is a very hard, brittle silvery-white metal in the platinum family. It is the second densest element after Osmium and is the most corrosion resistant metal even at temps as high as 2000 degrees Celcius. Iridium pretty much laughs at the feeble attempts made by acid. Yeah, I could see ET's...
